Just another day in the life of a toddler...
I gave y'all fair warning in my first post that I'd be talking a lot about my kids. A lot of people ask me how it's going with "Two under Two," and to be honest, it's not as bad as everyone thinks. This is NOT to say it's easy, but I think going into it, we knew it would be busy and hectic, so we had no illusions that it would be a walk in the park. Luckily, we've been blessed with 2 very good-natured girls. Yes, they have their moments (Hello 5am wakeup call from Eloise this morning!) but overall, they are pretty happy and content. I'll post more about how they are doing as sisters another time, but let's just say it's going pretty well!
One thing that helps with having 2 under 2 is keeping them busy (well, really keeping Annie busy; Eloise is pretty much just along for the ride at this point), be it with activities and toys in our home, going to the park, on an outing somewhere, to Grandpa and Grandma's house on a whim, or playing with cousins. Annie is lucky enough to have a "Sister Cousin" on each side - Emerson is 5 weeks older on Dan's side, and Rita is 3 weeks younger on my side. Annie seems to think all cousins are named Rita (or "wee-ah" as she says) . Sorry Emmy, but you'll be Rita as well until she figures that one out. This weekend, Annie got to see both of her sister cousins, which as parents is a fun thing to watch!
As many of you know, toddlers are unpredictable. They have big emotions that they don't quite know how to handle, but they also love fiercely. Another thing that happens around this time is a growing imagination. Annabelle seems to have really come into hers lately, as this weekend was full of "Where did she come up with that?" moments, starting on Friday afternoon before I picked her up from daycare. Our daycare is amazing, you guys. I swear, every teacher knows EVERY child in the center by name, not just the ones in their classes. I get updates and photos in real time on an app, which as a working mom, makes me happy throughout the day. When I picked Annie up on Friday, the conversation went something like this: Teacher (smirking): Did you see the pictures of Annabelle yet?
Me: I saw the picture of her finding the gorilla in the box from this morning - was there another one?
Teacher (laughing): You definitely haven't seen them yet then! There are more. She figured out how to take her shirt off today, and proceeded to dance, looking at herself in the mirror!
Heaven help me, child. Where do you come up with these things? What makes this even better is, as you can see from the photo below, Annie still has quite an adorable and sizeable buddha belly. Work it girlfriend.
Annie has always been very interested in music, but now she's putting together music and singing. She seems to be mimicking the singers at church sometimes as well, putting her arms up as if she's trying to get the congregation to sing along with her. She has appeared to figure out what a microphone is as well. Based on this, she won'e be soloing for anything any time soon...
There were a lot of other funny and random toddler things that happened with this kiddo this weekend, but at the risk of boring you with too many anecdotal stories at once, perhaps I'll save more for another post. For now I will leave you with a smiling Eloise and one final picture that basically recaps how we felt this morning after a fantastically fun weekend. In a few days, I'll be getting my Birchbox, so stay tuned for a review on that!
